Music Mondays - Don't Speak

      I am going to make this weeks post short and sweet. Today's post is brought to you by No Doubt, the soundtrack of my early dating years. 

      As before I took some creative liberties, as no one But Gwen Stefani, can be Gwen Stefani. As always I took more photos than needed and couldn't decide which to use so here is another.

      I just loved the texture effect the window had on the photo. Oh if you haven't figured it out, the song inspiration for this week was Don't Speak by No Doubt. It had just the right amount of angst for a naive girl first venturing out into the dating world.

Music Mondays - Bed of Roses

      I had hoped to start this last Monday, but then Mother Nature decided to have a say in where I was. I guess that is the price you have to pay to live where the sun shines and the ocean is close. For the past few months I have been working on taking pictures inspired by songs and their music videos. For my first post I have gone with Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi.

      As you can see he is laying me down in a bed of roses. A little on the nose sure, but it was fun to create a scene based on lyrics. His look is loosely based on the look of lead singer of Bon Jovi in the music video. If you have a song suggestion feel free to let me know. I do love a challenge!

Toys for each girl and boy

      While I was at the North Pole I learned something. Now I wasn't given specifics, but it appears that Santa is the biggest importer in the world. He told me he had several companies throughout the world to get the goods he needs for making every Christmas gift. It seems these businesses are "run" by elves, but they look human as to not arouse suspicion. I asked how this was possible and was again given the "Christmas Magic" excuse. It seems that they even import all natural fabrics and dyes for some of the stuffed animals. I was allowed into the toymaking training workshop. You see before the elves are allowed to move on to more complicated toys they need to master the basics, stuffed animals and wooden toys.

      As you can see the wooden toys come in a variety of ways, though it looks like someone snuck in a non-wooden toy into the workshop. Every toys gets played with for a little bit just to make sure they will hold up. The stuffed animals seem to get extra snuggles from this elf. The elves in the toy workshops all end up with tons of boxes laying around because after the toys are tested they are sent to the gift wrapping workshop before making their way into Santa's magic bag. We will see that workshop tomorrow!

Reindeer Recruits

      Yesterday I showed you the cookie, cocoa, and candy making division of the Santa's North Pole enterprise. Today we are going to check out the reindeer. We know the names of the classic eight, and Rudolph, but did you know they are constantly recruiting more reindeer? You see sometime the reindeer get injured playing with reindeer games so there is always a need for backup. The recruits go through rigorous trials to find those just right to guide the sleigh at night. There have been some recruits that don't pass muster for the big show. These reindeer don't just get turfed out into the barren north, instead Santa finds other jobs for the non-sleigh deer.

      Sometimes when the elf meets the new recruits it's not the lot that is expected. There are some angry deer in this crew this year and some goofballs too! Her first task was to get them all up and in a line. If they can't line up, well it's hard to harness them to the sleigh. 

      Try as she might she had a hard time getting a certain reindeer to stand at attention. This one had a hard time following directions and so now he will become a pet for one of the elf families. It's kind of like having a pet dog to them. I am not certain how it works as I wasn't allowed into any of the elves home either. Maybe next year I will be lucky enough to maybe see how that works.

Holiday Prep - Baking

      The holiday season is here and that is the reason I have been so quiet. I have also been working on another series of posts. I scoured the marketplace, yard sales and my inventory to find all the goodies in these photos. Today I will be showing you one of the baking areas of the North Pole. I got special permission from the big guy in the red suit. Of course there were some places I wasn't allowed to venture into, for instance his office where he keeps the naughty/nice list. Oh and his and Mrs. Claus' private home, but I understand that, I wouldn't want people traipsing about my home either to show to the world.

       Anyway this baking shop I checked was one of a few, the elves are always clamoring for cookies and cocoa. I don't blame them though, the cocoa I drank while there was the best ever. And the cookies! Oh my word they seemed to cater to everyone's taste.

      While I was there this elf was busy whipping up some icing for some sugar cookies she had just made. If my photos were scented this one would smell of sugar and vanilla and warmth. I am pretty sure I packed on 10 pounds just by looking at all the delicious cookies, not to mention the other sugary treats that they also make there. Tomorrow we will be taking a trip outside to check out the newest reindeer recruits!

Never a Stepford Wife

      I will never be confused for a Stepford wife ever. That doesn't mean that my house isn't clean or my kinds unfed, it just means that I am too bossy. And I will never dye my hair blond, ever. Now it could look like I am holding a nice hot cup of coffee for my husband who will be arriving shortly. But lets be real I probably made that hearty spread for myself. Or maybe I have a guest in town and the breakfast is for them. I can be a pretty good hostess when the need arises, but luckily it's not that often.


      I don't know that look on my face seems to tell a story of it's own. Who am I kidding I would totally make a breakfast like this for my husband, if I ever got up before him.

She Who Runs Wild

      There once was a drow who was unlike any other. She was born with strange red marking upon her skin that no one could seem to translate. As she grew older she didn't seem to favor the typical drow way of life. For starters she was far kinder and had an affinity for animals, big ones, like the snarling wolves of the forest. She would spend all her time there with them.



      Once day a wise drow from another tribe came to see hers. When he saw her markings he couldn't believe his eyes. He had only ever seen the markings once before. He walked up to her and asked he if she knew what her markings meant. "They mean she who runs wild, at least that is what I believe it to say." He relied, "No my child those markings mean you were touched by the light. You will never fit in with drow society for you do not have the darkness within you that we all possess. To say she was stunned was an understatement. In her sadness she fled to the forest to seek comfort with the only creatures who had ever loved her, the wolves.

An Adorable French Dancer

      When I saw the first picture for the Sarina skin from DeeTaleZ for the skin fair I almost immediately thought of Audrey Hepburn in the movie Sabrina. I knew I needed it being a fan of Audrey Hepburn movies. However when I wore it I realized I looked like a different film star from around the same time, Leslie Caron. If you don't know her you can Google her or I can tell you she was in a film called An American in Paris (1951). Gene Kelly was the lead in that one, but she dances too. She is even making appearance in film and movies today.


      In a lot of pictures you can find she has short hair, so that is what I tried to match after I realized I was more Leslie than Audrey. Still the skin makes me feel like a star from the 50's and that isn't a bad deal if you ask me!

Quiet Afternoon

Living in the southern part of the United States I don't have to worry about snow or other wintery nastiness. That means I get to spend more time outside, which is a lovely thing. This is what a typical afternoon would look like, well with a few changes. For starters it would be one of the kids hanging out with me, and they would be drinking something other than coffee. And to be honest I would probably be reading on a Kindle or using a tablet. Game Night

I can't remember if I mentioned this before or not, but I have been playing RPG in my non-digital life for almost two years now. It was all new to me as I never played D&D or anything like it when I was a kid. The (mostly) guys that I play with have all been doing this since their youth so I was completely clueless. Every year we pick some sort of gaming system and setting. This year we are taking turns being the GM/DM. The first game we played I chose to be a bard. I basically just wanted to make up bawdy songs for my own amusement. As usual I had help creating my character so she is a whip wielding, lute playing half-elf bard.



This is what happens with the non-digital Mister helps me create a character. In fact I am wearing more clothes that I think my character does. This past weekend I didn't get to use her because the group was so small we decided to do a one off game. Guess who got to the the GM/DM, that's right this girl. It was my first time ever and luckily I didn't do as terribly as I had thought. Fine there were only four people instead of the usual ten or so, but that made it easier on me! Now I have revealed my not so secret nerdy side, lets move onto the credits.

The Journal Kiss

Today I attempted the scene in the rain from The Notebook. Again it's not a perfect remake. I would have been at it for a lot longer than I wanted to be if I tried that. So instead of a lake there is a lovely pond. But hey there is still rain! No quote for this one, just the epic kiss.

Today's trip down lovers lane brings us to Knotting Hill, and a little travel bookshop. If you haven't guessed and I am just referring to a place, but also the movie Knotting Hill. This time I am taking on the scene where Julia Roberts (Anna) confesses her feelings to Hugh Grant (Will).

An Airfield Goodbye

It's Valentine's Day this week so I was inspired to do my own creative license version of some famous romantic scenes from movies. Today I am starting with the scene in Casablanca where Rick and Ilsa part company. They had this exchange...


Rick Blaine: If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.
Ilsa: But what about us?
Rick Blaine: We'll always have Paris. We didn't have it before...we'd...we'd lost it until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night.
Ilsa: When I said I would never leave you...
Rick Blaine: And you never will. But I've got a job to do too. Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that. Since the film is in black and white I chose to take the picture in black and white. I changed a few things for my photo, for instance my Rick is much younger than Humphrey Bogart. If you want to see the colored version you can check it out on flickr. I personally think it loses some of it's charm in color, but it does show what I am wearing much better. Vacant

This background seemed perfect for a few reasons at this moment. For starters the blog has been vacant for over a month. Between computer issues and non digital life craziness it just hasn't been happening. Hopefully that will be changing now. Also my mind has been a pretty vacant place. I think that is just a dramatic way of saying I have/had bloggers block. This usually happens when my inventory is a mess. Am I the only one who finds a chaotic inventory to be a distraction?


As I was sorting things, I put together this look. I thought it was pretty cool so I thought I would share. Oh and I have to share a funny about this photo. As I was uploading it to flickr, the mister asked what I was listening to. He assumed it was an album cover. I think I could totally see that now that I think about it.

The Sea Sprite

Fear not this little is not sad, she is just blue by nature. It helps her hide in the waters she calls home. She was a playful one when I was snapping these pictures of her in her watery home. She was doing flips, twists and all other manner of aquatic acrobatics. I have no idea how old she is exactly, she looks younger than I am, but you never know with this type of creature. She could be pushing a century and I would never know. She gave a beautiful iridescent shell when I had to depart, maybe it means we are friends now?

Mix and Match

I promise the title of the post will make sense when we get down to the credits. Well I guess from a quick glance you can see we are wearing the same sweater, just in different colors. The outfit comes with just the sweater or the sweater and skirt. I wasn't in the mood for a skirt. Luckily Bunny is always willing to be the girlier of the two of us, so she wore the skirted version. I think she looked more spring-like, though I look like a bee, so maybe we both nailed the spring thing. I don't have anything really brilliant to add today, so I will move onto the credits.
