Fresh Ingredients

Thanksgiving is Thursday here in the US so it's time to get ready for the food! This past weekend I went to get apples and pumpkins for our pies. I decided to take Livy with me for some auntie-niece bonding time. Well her mom may have begged me to take her with me to get some alone time for a few hours. Who am I to say no to a desperate sister? Our first stop was the pumpkin patch.

We found the the right sized pumpkins to whip up a tasty pumpkin pie from scratch. After that we had to make a quick stop at home to change. I hadn't anticipated the muddiness of the pumpkin patch before we left and our clothes were a mess! Our next stop was the orchard to pick some apples for apple pie, and of course some for eating too.

We had great fun at the orchard. Livy liked that I let her climb a ladder, carefully supervised of course. I am not that irresponsible, most days. After we finished picking a big bucket full of apples it was time to head home. Livy told me she has a secret to tell me before we left. She told me she found a big wriggling worm in an apple. I was not nearly as enthused about this as she was. Lucky for me she fell asleep on the way home so I didn't have to hear more of her wormy apple tales. Tomorrow we get to work on making those pies.

Storytime

My dragon friends love it when I read them stories. I try to make sure the stories all have dragons, but not terrible knight who go around killing dragons. Stupid knights don't know what they are doing! All because one dragon once went a little crazy and terrorized a village now all dragons are bad. Hrumf I say. The Dragon Queen, also known as my mom, watches out for all the in our land. I get to play with all the little whelps. They are too adorable for words! That little one who is trying to read over my shoulder is always following me around. I think it may be because our wings are the same color.

Fly My Pretties!

Before there were flying monkeys the Wicked Witch tried other animals. When she was young she tried and army of flying kitties. She hoped the kitties would kill her enemy's with cute, but it failed...miserably. I mean sure they were distracted by the cuteness and had a great time playing with the kitties, but no one died. In fact all the kitties never returned to her. They ended up being spoiled by the people she sent them after and they never wanted to leave. There were a few other animals in between the kitties and her eventual minions the flying monkeys.

On the Naughty List

There are some things that just do not fly in my world. One of those things was having a younger sibling. I mean here I am going along as an only child for what felt like ages. Then along comes a little sister. What a pain! I tried my best to be nice. I hung stockings with her and told her all about how Santa would fill them with sweets and treats.

See a sweet sisterly moment, until something happened. She annoyed me so much I started to tease her. I mean it was all in good fun. Of course she could take a joke, so she told our parents. Look it wasn't that bad!

I was only holding her present out of reach. Who hasn't done that to a younger sibling or two before? It's like an older sibling rite of passage or something. I didn't take getting tattled on too well, I know that I was a little extreme in my response, but I was young and emotional. Besides Santa can always use more elves right?
Sure now I may slightly regret it, but hey I am making it up be being a super awesome aunt to her kid. I must have a guilty concious.

Always Thankful for Family

A while ago I took my niece Livy to her grandparents cottage, and while we were there I thought it would be a good idea to take some Thanksgiving themed pictures because I wasn't sure I would see her for the holiday. And because I am all about cheesiness I made sure we had matching outfits. I will not even begin to describe the amount of shapewear I had to wear underneath to get this dress to fit. What can I say the only matching outfits I could find were in the kids department. Once I was trussed up and dressed like a turkey we headed outside to take some pictures. I got the camera all set up on the tripod and angled as best I could. I then scooped Livy up in to my arms and told her to say cheese. It seems the little trickster didn't like my smile and helped "fix" it.

She is just a laugh a minute I tell ya. I thought it would be good for Livy to write down what she was thankful for on an easel I found in the shed. I handed her a piece of chalk and got to setting up the camera for another picture. When I first walked over after adjusting the camera I saw she was thankful for candy. I asked her if there was anything else she was thankful for, knowing there was only one answer I was looking for. She listed a few other things before landing on the one I wanted to see. It's nice to know where family ranks on the list!

Sisterly love or something

I had the girls over to visit this weekend and they were upstairs playing in their castle making paper chains. What can I say it's an inexpensive activity and makes for some cute decorations. Sure call it child labor if you want to, but I paid them in cupcakes. At least I thought I did. I sent Livy upstairs with a cupcake for her and her sister, and this is what I caught her doing while her sister waited!

That little stinker licked both cupcakes! She knew her sister would never want to eat a licked cupcake. She learned all about germs at school and never wanted to get her icky little sister's germs. I took her downstairs for her own lick free cupcakes and she went back upstairs to play after she was all done. A little later I went upstairs because it got a bit too quiet. Anyone who has ever been around kids knows quiet equals trouble.

I guess she was trying to exact her revenge. You can see Livy is just so upset by this whole thing. She knows I would never let her sister give her away, and that her mom would be there soon to get her anyway. I think I need a vacation after a weekend with those two!
