“Your Honor my client pleads not guilty by reason of temporary insanity”, the public defender stated to the Judge. This was his big chance, a chance to make a name for himself by defending the accused in the trial of a lifetime. You see in this case the defendant is accused of viciously murdering her male companion. It all started on a regular Thursday evening, the accused, we will call her Phire, was busy preparing a salad for dinner. Something light and healthy, since they were both trying to get ready for a tropical beach vacation. In walked the deceased, we will call him Duncan*, chowing down on a burger. Now Phire had been sticking to their diet religiously, giving up all the things she loved, especially chocolate. Seeing Duncan eating that burger drove Phire into a rage, you could say the Phire became an inferno. Before she knew what was happening she drove the knife she was using to chop vegetables straight into Duncan’s heart.
After realizing what she has done Phire panicked, she needed to do something fast! She needed to get him out of the house and hidden.
Using all her might, Phire dragged the still warm body of Duncan out of the kitchen and into the shed in the back garden. She leaned him up in the corner of the small shed and hid his body beneath bags of fertilizer. She needed time to come up with a plan to get rid of the body...but that was not to be. So today she sits in the courtroom hoping that jury of her peers understand that dieting can be murder.
